Gwen began campaigning for Scottish independence in the first months of 2014.

She had never campaigned in her life and was not even a member of any political party.

The UK Government recently voted to renew its nuclear weapons system at a cost of £205billion, against the will of the Scottish people which is another example of us being in a democratic deficit. I campaign against the 215 UK nuclear weapons which are kept 25 miles from Glasgow, our largest city. This makes Scotland a target should any nuclear war begin or if there was an accident either at the base at Faslane or whilst they are transported on our roads in nuclear convoys. I joined CND and have been very much involved in campaigning to make Scotland Independent and nuclear free. I was elected to be Assistant Secretary of Scottish CND, Vice Chair of SNP-CND, Chair of Ayrshire CND and Treasurer/media organiser for Yes East Ayrshire as well as admin for several independence social media pages including Indy2.

She has always been certain that Scotland should take its place amongst the other free nations of the world.

Scotland has not been treated well in the United Kingdom.

When you realise just how much of Scotland’s taxes go to the UK Government and just how much we get back, it is really unacceptable.

The figures which have appeared from OXFAM saying that in parts of Glasgow 33% of the population are living in poverty, with thousands of people in Scotland having to go to food banks in order to eat and the ill health this creates, we really must accept this union is failing Scotland.

We really must try to become independent to have any chance at all of escaping poverty.

We have the land, the sea, the resources and the educated workforce to raise and maintain a very strong economy and this has been proven time and time again.

I work as a graphic designer and have designed a lot of campaign material over the past few years. One of the best things to have come out of the independence campaign is to have met so many great people who are working tirelessly to help Scotland become an independent country and that Scotland has been described as one of the most politically engaged nations in the world. We know we will be having another independence referendum soon and we are ready!

Thank you very much for organising and inviting me to speak at the first international rally for Scottish independence.
